I love you when you pull my hair and when your poo gets on my hands,
I love you through every explosive mess that means I have to change your pants.
I love you every minute that you’re attached to me while I work and cook and clean,
Like a Joey in my Mama Roo pouch, next to my heart is where you are meant to be.
I love you when you wake me in the middle of the night,
Cuddling close and suckling my nipple with your little fist curled into my side.
I love you when you cry, telling me what you need,
Mummy, I’m hungry, thirsty, lonely, tired and want to sleep.
I love you because of all these things, because what they really say,
Is how special a relationship the two of us share in every single way.
I love you little man, and I value your place in my life, my heart, my world,
You and your sister have shifted my axis, my beautiful boy and girl.
And to your threenage sister, my feisty, fabulous daughter,
I love you when you refuse to eat and when you drown your meal in water.
I love you when you wake at night for seemingly no reason at all,
I love you when at bedtime you’re bouncing off the walls.
I love you when you wake me and demand I dress you there and then,
And if I don’t dress you to your liking, you’ll darn well do it yourself.
I love you when you refuse to listen and run off to explore,
You’re independent and adventurous, qualities I can’t help but love you for.
I love you both unconditionally, even though at times I yell or swear or ignore,
No matter the tantrum, sleepless night or mess, you’re what I’m living for.
