The fourth annual BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund has been awarded to Nicholas Kirkwood. Chosen from among five esteemed shortlisted designers, including Roksanda Ilincic, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto and Emilia Wickstead; the footwear visionary is the recipient of the £200,000 prize.
The award was established to support the reputation of London’s rising stars and further their opportunities in expanding their global brand. Granting emerging talent access to key senior level mentors in the fashion industry, the decision to award this year’s fund to Kirkwood came about as a result of his and business partner Christopher Suarez’ professional three year plan and presentation at interview.
The BFC will develop a bespoke mentoring programme tailored specifically to assist Kirkwood in achieving his business goals for the next 18 months, with the aspiration that the network developed during this mentoring year will endure throughout his career as he makes the transition from a developing creative business into a global fashion brand.
