In fashion land we are always three steps ahead of the traditional calendar year which is why it comes as no surprise that while November blends into the festive culmination of 2012, the style schedule is well on course for Spring Summer 2013.

Weddings and babies, occurrences that perpetuate throughout the year it is true, stake their favoured claim into the season that is alight with fresh beginnings, the start of longer days and the carefree attitude that comes with sunshine, ice cream and open-toe footwear. So, news of designer bridal attire, model-esque baby bumps and the pitter patter of tiny heeled feet at GUCCI are typical highlights to report.

Fashion designer Roland Mouret yesterday unveiled his debut bridal range, The White Collection, at Net-A-Porter putting a sexy twist on the traditional marital garb. Comprising five unique styles in a virginal white and cream colour palette, from a wool crepe cocktail-style dress to a gown of draped lace, each piece in the collection is accompanied by a message from Mouret himself, wrapped with a moleskin bow. Prices range from £1,600 to £4,100. Speaking to Vogue.co.uk the designer said: “I wanted to create something that is about you and your partner, a one-to-one private relationship with the dress – not just something to please friends and family. I want my bridal dresses to be a bit sexier.”

From bridal to baby bump comes a new look for the 2013 Pirelli calendar, which features artfully shot images of some of the world’s most beautiful and philanthropic models against the backdrop of Brazilian capital – and home to the 2016 Olympic games – Rio de Janeiro. Adriana Lima appears modestly covered with the exception of her blossoming baby bump, alongside fellow models Karlie Kloss, Isabeli Fontana, Petra Nemcova, Elisa Sednaoui, Liya Kebede and Summer Rayne Oakes. Each chosen for their contributions to charitable causes, this year’s muses were photographed by Steve McCurry, whose work includes the famed portrait of the green-eyed Afghan girl for the 1985 cover of the National Geographic.

Onto news that fashion powerhouse couple Frida Giannini, creative director for GUCCI, and the House’s president and CEO, Patrizio Di Marco, are expecting their first child. According to WWD, following the AW13 shows at the start of next year, Giannini will take a brief maternity leave before her expected return in June for the next men’s show. The pair, who have been together since 2009, confirmed their coupling only two years later as Patrizio said: “The relationship Frida and I have is very serious. When in life, you choose someone to be with – someone you are looking to spend your life with – well, this is a match of minds and souls. We don’t agree on everything. But you only really argue when you have something important to argue about. Otherwise you realise it’s not worth it.”

I can’t wait to hear whether the couple gives birth to the next generation of GUCCI girl, or boy…
