Rising Starlet: Azealia Banks for ASOS

One of my favourite retail fashion brands, ASOS, has become the ultimate platform for rising music and style starlet, Azealia Banks. The hip-hop singer remarked on her sartorial podium, saying: “I feel like it’s created this thing for me to stand on that I didn’t even intend to have as a musician, but when it’s time to make your album, you make your album.”

The much-anticipated January issue of the online destination for fashionistas everywhere, is finally here with the gorgeous Banks starring both front-cover and centre in a 10-page spread. Modelling an electrifying ASOS ensemble of embellished bra top and pleated leather skirt, shot by photographer Tyrone Lebon in an East London locale; Banks proves her status as fashbassador not only for ASOS but with a view to asserting new season trends.

The 21-year old rapper is set to release her debut album Broke with Expensive Taste in February 2013, having already given fans an exclusive preview of what is to come with her single Fierce launched via ASOS’ Christmas campaign. Commenting on her album, Banks said: “I’m taking a lot of risks with this record, but music is so personal. I’m nervous, I’m excited, and there’s this crazy adrenaline. I’m sleeping in the studio, I have knots in my throat and I’m so anxious, I’m a nervous wreck.”

The New Year cover star, while basking in her emerging fame, assured her fans that she was like any other girl at the heart of it by revealing her penchant for glitter-tastic footwear. “I would say I’m fashionable, but I’m not a fashion queen. I don’t really think about it too much. I have a friend in New York who I’ll give $5,000 and she’ll come back with loads of stuff for me to try on. But the last thing I bought myself were these sparkly Miu Miu shoes that I picked up in Hawaii. Sparkly glitter shoes!” she said.

The January issue of ASOS magazine is out now and the fabulous ASOS Fashion Up app is available to download here, placing your key to the latest trends, both on the red carpet and fresh from the style-worthy streets right in your hands.
