The Nineties references which have dictated much of the new season aesthetic, continue their reign into Miuccia Prada’s SS13 catwalk collection for Miu Miu. A capsule both tantalising to the eye and to the touch, Prada’s vision is inspired.
An array of pieces crafted in denim is the headlining act amid the new season offering, with a selection of items, including coats and pencil skirts, lined in satin lending them a couture feel. A new take on an opulent fabric sees bandeau bra tops, dresses and coats cut from “wrinkled silk” in subtle metallic shades of speckled pink, white, iron and black, providing a wispy and delicate contrast against a set of indulgently thick, soft furs.
The geeky trend for tie dye which haunted most ‘90s wardrobes was given a refreshing spin via swirling prints on dainty dresses, fur stoles and ever luxurious fur coats, while elegantly cut black satin separates kept things classic and chic. Bursts of vibrant colour shot through the mostly neutral palette by way of orange prints, pink pointy-toe heels and a selection of leather elbow gloves in sweetie-box shades of red, pink, blue and white.
Buttons were big and bejewelled, an exquisite touch that was reflected on the shoes and statement jewellery which floated at the neck and entwined the wrist. Creamy leather in peach and chalky white made a cameo appearance via sophisticated separates, those old school glamorous gloves and envelope clutches, staying true to the designer’s familial beginnings selling luxury leather goods.
