The new Africa AW12 collection for ASOS is grounded in the genre of arts and crafts, produced in collaboration with SOKO Kenya which enables underprivileged communities to establish sustainable business through local craftsmanship. Made up of paisley prints and horizontal-striped grey marl, the collection takes its form via brocade jersey sweatshirts, pinafore dresses and oversized hoodies.
Colours are teal, gunmetal silver for rock chic miniskirts, sporty blue, and elegant grey silk shirts and nipped-waist sweat tops. Prices range from £25 to £120, across the collection which also features funky midi-length bombers, jacquards and checked trousers. ASOS Fashion Up has commissioned an exclusive video to celebrate the new collection, filmed by London director Rohan Blair-Mangat whose CV includes promos for DJ Fresh ft Rita Ora, Lianne La Havas and Hervé, which is also available to view through the ASOS Fashion Up App.
US First Lady, Michelle Obama, has already been spotted in a skirt from the SS12 collection and if it’s good enough for the President’s wife then you can bet it’s making a beeline for my wardrobe!
