The December issue of Vogue turns its attention to a celebration of pop, from people to pop music, pop-up shops and pop culture. Aware of pop culture references strewn across a number of the new season collections – the least subtle being the catwalk extravaganza hosted by Jean Paul Gaultier – Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman intends the new issue to convey all the colour, print and excess of the SS13 collections.
So who better to star as her leading men in this bright, bubbly and fun-filled issue but men of the moment and pop’s brightest young things, One Direction. Simon Cowell’s boy-band wonder dream has surpassed the questionable limits of The X Factor to compete on level ground with their pop peers. Thanks to fresh-faced good looks, better than average singing voices and Harry Styles, the group has gone from a gangly cluster of assembled soloists to become one of the world’s most successful boy-bands. And now they’ve truly skyrocketed as they make it into the hallowed pages of style bible Vogue, thus placing Liam, Niall, Zain, Louis and of course Harry, into the enviable fashion spotlight.
Named Cosmopolitan’s Men of the Year at the magazine’s Ultimate Women Awards with VO5, One Direction are no stranger to accolades so appearing in the iconic fashion title, which stars model Natalia Vodianova on the cover, is but another milestone they will have conquered in that carefree, breezy manner of theirs. Photographed by none other than the legendary Patrick Demarchelier, the shoot, which shows the boys draped around British model Edie Campbell, appears in the December issue of Vogue due out tomorrow (3 November).
