The Valentino spring summer season is going to brimming with femininity and desirability if the sheer tea dresses with peekaboo balcony bras visible beneath are anything to go by. Design duo, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, sent their models out in a demure state of undress, with a series of slip dresses in black and French Manicure pink and the theme of transparency was later echoed by cellophane clear trench coats that did rather more than hint at the pretty tea dresses within. Snakeskin and panels that were worked in such a way as to flaunt the skin beneath mixed things up, delivering a tough edge to a collection that was incredibly beautiful in an old fashioned fairytale romance type of way. Jumpsuits took several steps back in time to find themselves deep within the Edwardian and Victorian eras, embellished with ruffled bib fronts, decorative lace and collars. High necks and long sleeves made for gowns that were refined and chic, while others came with delicate capes. The label toyed with the floral trend that is once again a staple of springtime, adorning floor-sweeping dresses with dandelions both printed and bejwelled. Elegant chiffon and broderie anglaise lent to the overall feel of girlie sophistication in a collection that revered all that was wonderful about olde worlde romance.
