Minnie Mouse & Me

Being a mini myself, it stands to reason that I would look to the most stylish of all Disney’s original cast as my favourite fashion icon. We both love bows, Mickey and polka dots (though I fear I’ll have a few years yet before Mummy will let me have my own pair of heels), but overall Minnie and I have a lot in common. Coinciding with the spring summer 2013 shows, designers including Lulu Guinness, Giles Deacon and Richard Nicoll, are presenting their interpretations of Minnie Mouse’s inimitable style at London Fashion Week.

Minnie’s haute couture makeover comprises one-off garments and accessories that will be auctioned on eBay following the exhibition at Somerset House and the proceeds will go towards the British Fashion Council initiative Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation in a bid to support the bonds within the creative industries.

International designers, from Michael van der Ham and Katie Hillier to Terry de Havilland and Tatty Devine, have honoured Minnie Mouse’s eternally relevant style with their collection of ‘must-haves’ which each pick out some element or other of the cartoon heroine’s unique and distinctive style.

Avant-garde London designers, Meadham Kirchhoff, unveiled their collaboration with the Disney character at their spring summer 13 collection this afternoon, showcasing yellow-heeled models in floor-length red and white polka dot dresses, lots and lots of bows laced into hair-styles, wide-sleeved white coats, bolero jackets and dresses and Minnie’s cartoon eyes popping out of a mustard and black trench.

Marc Low, VP of fashion and Home at Disney, commented on the collection of ‘must-haves’ saying:
“Minnie Mouse and her unique style continue to inspire fans across the world. Surpassing trends, Minnie Mouse’s iconic silhouette, signature bows and polka dots always remain in style which is why she is as relevant today as the day she first appeared on the fashion scene.”

The eBay auction is currently live with bids rising by the hour. I’ve got my eye on the bespoke Giles Deacon babydoll dress and headpiece… just need to get Daddy and his credit card!

Very good blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on
everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for
a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely confused .. Any ideas? Cheers!

Thank you v.much. I definitely think wordpress is great for getting you started and it has loads of different themes for you pages.
I would say be focused – give your blog a specific subject matter, something which interests you and you find engaging that way when you write about it others will also be engaged. Find your niche. Oh and link to your twitter account if you have one! Hope that helps. Good Luck!
